Chakra

The Sanskrit word means a revolving disk. There is no directly equivalent western word, which is why ‘chakras’ has come into English usage.

The traditional image is often of  a wheel with spokes, a flower with petals (orient), or a star with rays (occident). Their reflection is closer in some ways to the seven traditional (viewable by naked eye) planets than to the Sefira or ‘numbers’ of Judaic mysticism.
